YG Net Worth (Rapper) 2022 – Income, Salary, Career, Age, Bio

Recently, the music industry has been saturated with many talents. It feels like 85% of the world’s population has the gift of making music. Everyone seems to be dropping hit songs here and there; some are one-hit wonders and don’t get past a specific period.

A few have made it big in the music scene and retained their success. Some establish brands that outlive their music and keep them afloat in ensuring their wealth remains.

While others believe they can make it in the music industry by dropping hits, others think there are other avenues to stay relevant and earn much more.

Whatever the case may be, the fact remains, artists are making big bucks from their music. Let’s cover one of such artists, rapper YG, his net worth, income and career as of early 2022.

Personal Life

Born in Compton, California, as Keenon Dequan Ray Jackson on the 9th of March 1990, YG (Young Gangster) grew up in Long Beach, California. His father went to jail for tax fraud while young, leaving his mother Shonee Jackson to raise the rapper and his younger sister alone.

YG attended Paramount High School and Mayfair High before eventually dropping out. For one month, he worked at Fuddruckers, a burger joint.

Right from a young age, YG had shown interest in music. In 2008, when he was 18 years old, YG met DJ Mustard, who went on to become his personal and label DJ. Unfortunately, the rapper is involved in some violent tussles with neighbourhood gangs as shots were fired at him twice.

The second time he was shot was on his hip, and he suffered from three gun wounds on his hip at Studio City, California. The rapper is currently a member of Compton’s Westside Tree Top Piru gang.

Relationship

YG dated fellow music star and R&B singer Kehlani. However, the pair ended their relationship due to YG cheating on her. The rapper has two daughters with his current girlfriend.

Career

YG officially started his music career when he dropped his debut single in 2010 titled “Toot It and Boot It”, the single features Ty Dolla Sign.

The track hit the No. 67 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The Compton born rapper signed on to Young Jeezy’s record label, CTE World, in June 2013 and his album was released under the label. YG’s single “My Nigga” featuring Young Jeezy and Rich Homie Quan was released later that year, topping at no. 19 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

In 2014, YG released a song featuring Drake titled “Who Do You Love?” in anticipation of his debut studio album. The album titled “My Krazy Life” was released in March that year under the collaboration of Pu$haz Ink, CTE World, and Def Jam.

The album garnered much attention and success, increasing YG’s popularity in the US and internationally.

Still, in 2014, YG featured R&B singer Jeremih in his highest-charting single titled “Don’t Tell ‘Em”, peaking at No. 6 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

The rapper released his second studio album titled “Still Brazy” on the 17th of June 2016 after previous releases featuring 50 Cent and the late Nipsey Hussle. In November 2016, the digital project “Red Friday”, containing eight tracks inspired by Black Friday, dropped.

YG released his 3rd studio album, “Stay Dangerous”, in the summer of 2018. In 2019, YG announced a fourth album titled “4Real 4Real” on Twitter, slated to be released on the 12th of April. The album initially came as a surprise to everyone but was delayed due to the death of YG’s close friend Nipsey Hussle.

YG released the single “FTP (Fuck The Police)” in 2020 after the killing of George Floyd and used the “Black Lives Matter” protest as its official video. In addition, the rapper announced the release of his fifth album, “My Life 4Hunnid”, in September that year, after recording all songs during the COVID-19 pandemic. The album, according to him, was highly inspired by Hip Hop legend Tupac Shakur.

YG announced his first collaborative album titled “Kommunity Service” with fellow rapper Mozzy. The album was initially titled “Perfect Timing”, released on the 21st of May 2021. The album paid tribute to late rapper DMX who died that year.

Income & Net Worth

The American rapper co-owns the record label Pu$haz Ink and 4Hunnid Records and is reportedly worth $6 million, making him one of the wealthiest rappers in the US. However, YG’s primary source of income remains his music career as a rapper and label owner.

He made about $3 million from music alone within the last few years, with his annual income sitting pretty over $0.8 million.
