Late Colin Luther Powell was born on the 5th day in April 1937 and died on October 18, 2021. He was born to Jamaican immigrant parents Maud Ariel(nee McKoy) and Luther Theophilus Powell.

Colin worked at a local baby furniture store while in school and worked as a Shabbos goy(a non- Jew employed by Jews to perform certain kinds of work). Growing up, life was not rosy for the young Colin Powell.

He obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Geology in 1958 from the City College of New York for his educational background. In 1971, Powell earned an MBA from George Washington University, and later in 1990, an Honorary Doctor of public service.

Career

Powell went into the army and served as a soldier for 35 years before becoming a General. In 1989, he was the Commander of the United States Army forces command.

From 1962 to 1963, he served as an advisor in Vietnam to the South Vietnamese Army and was a captain. In addition, Powell once survived a helicopter crash and rescued three others in the process. As a result, the armed forces decorated Powell with a soldier’s medal for being brave.

Powell’s last military duty was from October 1989 to September 1993, where he held the highest military rank in the U.S. Department of Defense as the Joint Chiefs of Staff chairman. He oversaw a total of 28 crises during this period as the Joint Chiefs of staff, including the invasion of Panama in 1989 & Operation Desert Storm in the Persian Gulf war from (1990-91).

After the Vietnam war, he returned to the United States in 1971 and served a White House Fellowship under Richard Nixon, the then President(1972-73). And from 1975-76, he attended the National War College in Washington DC.

Colin Powell gave credit to General Henry “Gunfighter” Emerson for being such a great inspiration while in service. He regards and holds him in high esteem as one of the most caring and loving officers he has ever known because of his undying love for his soldiers.

During his military career, he served as a Junior military assistant to deputy secretaries of defence, which further took him to become a brigadier general on June 1, 1979.

When President Donald Reagan was President, Colin Powell became the now- senior military assistant to the President. Powell once declined an offer to be an under-secretary from the then secretary of the Army John O. Marsh junior because he didn’t want a political appointment.

Powell was known as the “reluctant warrior” during his military career due to his doggedness and determination and doing whatever he set his mind on. On September 30, 1993, he resigned early in his career as the Joint Chiefs of staff.

From 1995, he was a Republican until 2021, when he became an Independent due to the United States capitol attack.

Colin Luther Powell died from Covid-19 complications at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center on October 18 2021, at age 84. Before his death, Powell was treated for multiple myeloma and was vaccinated, but unfortunately, the myeloma affected his immune system, and he also had Parkinson’s disease.

His funeral was attended by the high and mighty society, including President Joe Biden, former presidents Barack Obama and George Bush. All would remember Powell.
